Welcome to

Nanstallon Pre-School

Welcome to our Pre-School

Situated in the heart of Nanstallon, Nanstallon Pre-School has been running since 1990 and we have been in our purpose built, eco building in the grounds of Nanstallon School since February 2010. We are registered with OFSTED to provide part-day care, welcoming children the intake after they are two years up to five years.

We are a registered charity and not run for profit. We are registered to offer places under the Early Years Education Grant Scheme, this means that a child can have up to 15 hours of subsidised funding per week beginning the term after their third birthday. We are also participating in the 15 hours subsidised funding scheme for 2 year olds and subsidised funding scheme for 30 hours per week for 3 year olds, both are dependent on individual circumstances.

We had our last Ofsted inspection in January 2023 and passed with a ‘Good’ outcome.

Our Aims and our Ethos

Our aim is

To provide the very best facilities, experiences and opportunities for all children.

To work in partnership with parents to help children to learn and develop.

To offer a service that promotes equality and values diversity.

To support children so that they leave us confident, knowledgeable, independent and good communicators. This ensures they are ready for their next stage of learning.

Our ethos is to

Provide an exciting, fun place, where children can learn through play and make friends.

Provide a nurturing environment where children feel happy and safe so they can develop their self-esteem and confidence.

Our curriculum aims to

Enable our children to develop the skills and knowledge to navigate, understand and explore the world around them.

Provide a well thought through and stimulating environment where children can explore and develop their learning experiences, these are planned for based on the observations of children and their interests.

In order for us to teach and for the children to learn new skills we aim to provide a good balance of adult and child led opportunities, both indoors and outdoors (in our garden and forest school area.)

We aim to ensure that we support children so that they leave us confident, knowledgeable, independent and good communicators. This ensures they are ready for their next stage of learning.

Caterpillar Room 2yrs+

The Caterpillar room is a fun, safe place where two year olds can explore, begin to form relationships and be creative.

Our staff are nurturing and supportive understanding that being two can be tricky emotionally, they are always there to help the children to share and take turns.

They teach and guide them to gain some important independent skills, such as putting on their muddy puddle suits or putting on their own shoes. They continuously support children through high quality interactions, develop language through songs, rhymes and stories.

Our play area has been designed with our youngest people in mind, it is a light airy space and there is a wide range of toys in low-level storage units, for the children to self-select what they would like to play with, there is a home corner with access to dressing up clothes, cosy reading area for quiet times, with cushions and a small bookcase where children can choose from our wide selection of books. In the creative areas, there is an easel, sand/water tray, creative materials that the children can access themselves. During each session we make our own playdough and offer a wide range of sensory activities such as shaving foam, gloop etc. Activities and resources are varied and planned for based on the children’s interest or need, they are differentiated to meet individual children’s needs. Practitioner provide resources that reflect diversity and inclusion.

We have child sized sinks plus two child-sized toilets in individual cubicles with a door for privacy. We have a potty for those children who prefer to use one during the early stages of potty training. Children do not need to be potty trained before attending, staff are there to help support children and their parents through this important step.
