Play and Learning in the Early Years

We understand that play based learning is the key to happy, confident, resilient children. It is through play that children learn most effectively, through our environment children can explore and develop learning experiences and they are given consistent boundaries.

At Nanstallon Pre-School continuous provision and any adult led activities are planned for based on the observations of children and their interests.

The majority of the play is child led, but there is balance between activities led by children and activities led or guided by adults. They are there so that all children can access a balanced curriculum based on the EYFS. We aim to provide opportunities for children to explore their own interests, practitioners will use these interests to plan opportunities that build on and extend the children’s knowledge and experience, developing their self-esteem and confidence.

The interests, experiences and diversity of all children are considered and resources are developmentally appropriate and can be used in a number of ways to match the ages and stages of children’s development and their different learning styles. They reflect the world around us and local community where appropriate.

Our resources and equipment are available for the children to be able to self-select to support independent learning and the learning environment is safe and well organised.

Equality and Diversity
At Nanstallon Pre-School we aim to provide a warm, friendly and stimulating environment where the children feel safe and valued, they are therefore able to become confident, capable and independent learners.

We are open to all children and their families and our children are provided with the opportunity to experience, understand and celebrate diversity.

We aim to provide a fully inclusive environment for any child with special needs in safe and secure surroundings, to enable them to achieve their full potential. Any child with special educational needs will have full access to the foundation stage curriculum.

We work in partnership with parents and appropriate professionals and supporting bodies when required to put this in place.

If your child has Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities we will work with you and outside professional agencies such as; health visitors, social workers, speech therapists etc, to make sure that we are doing all we can to help your child reach their full potential.

Our building has wheelchair access and our highly qualified staff share a wealth of experience.
