Outdoor Learning

During the year, we make the most of our outside spaces either in the garden or down in our Forest School area. All weather clothing is provided for adults and children so that they have access to the outdoor environment whatever the weather.

Outside in our large garden, we have our enclosed outdoor sandpit, a willow tunnel, obstacle course and a small climbing frame with slide. Our sand kitchen area provides lots of opportunities for imaginative play. We also have play tables, gardening area and a large covered water table.  Underneath the building there is storage for our bikes, scooters, physical play equipment, including building blocks.

We are so fortunate to not only have our own garden area, but, as we are in the grounds of Nanstallon County Primary School, we also have use of their field and woodland area, where we have our ‘Outdoor Adventure Den,’ which we use for our Forest School sessions.

Forest school & outdoor learning is an opportunity for children to experience nature and the outdoor environment in a safe, secure and hands on way. Children learn best from first hand experiences.

Building a sense of independence, confidence, high self-esteem and team-work are important parts of forest school, but health and safety considerations are always of paramount importance. We have two Forest School trained staff who run sessions in the Spring and Summer terms.
